Trinoc-Con Anyone?

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
So Trinoc-Con's supposed to be starting today in Durham. It's a "relaxacon" this year, but there's supposed to be programming and guests and such. As of this evening, there's no schedule on the website. Snuck up on me, too.

Anyone going? This is practically in my backyard, so--though I haven't asked to be a panelist or anything this year on account of my PCS and how long it took for me to recover from WisCon--I'd like to stop by, though I'm not sure when would be a good time. I'm still so new to the whole con-going world...

Being "that girl"

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 7:32 PM
Some guys dream of meeting that girl at a party that's also looking for a one night stand.

What I hate is when you're that girl and your target decides to be a douche bag and plays hard-to-get.

What is this world coming to?

Just some doodles

The girl in the bottom right corner is "Flo" from those Progressive commercials.

I like this game, so as promised I'm doing it again...

Swiped from... well, me I guess:
1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. (or just remember them.)
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

My cup runneth over with movie quotes... BEGIN!

1. We went for breakfast... in Canada. We made a deal; if she'd stop hookin', I'd stop shooting people.

2. Only one man can kill this many Russians. Bring his guitar to me!

3. My friend and me got a hankerin' for Switzerland chocolate and a good smoke.

4. We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.

5. Christmas? Christmas means dinner, dinner means death! Death means carnage; Christmas means carnage!

6. You see, boys forget what their country means by just reading The Land of the Free in history books. Then they get to be men they forget even more. Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books, Miss Saunders. Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't, I can, and my children will. Boys ought to grow up remembering that.

7. Dr. Oatman, please pick up, pick up! I, I'm standing where my, uh, living room was and it's not here because my house is gone and it's an Ultimart! You can never go home again, Oatman... but I guess you can shop there.

8. I know you're scared; we're all scared, but that doesn't mean we're cowards. We can take these skeletons, we can take them, with science.

9. Hi. How are you? My name's Elliot, and I'm with the Cub Scouts of America. We're... we're selling uncut cocaine to get to the jamboree.

10. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

11. You mean this isn't the first time a crime lord asked you to kill the gay son of a rival gangster to pay off a debt that belongs to a friend whose place you're staying in as a result of losing your job, your apartment, and finding your girlfriend in bed with another guy?

12. This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then - explode.

13.Okay. You people sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president.

14. Never thought there'd be a worse way to die than a shark attack. Having my head ripped off never occurred to me.

15. Can you see me? Oh, now be honest, Captain, warrior to warrior. You do prefer it this way, don't you, as it was meant to be? No peace in our time. "Once more unto the breach, dear friends."

The Stargate panels were a big helping of awesome with a cherry on top (the cherry being the shiny Stargate Worlds t-shirt we got. Totally worth missing my copyright seminar over. Richard Dean Anderson is funny as hell. And the Atlantis s5 trailer looked *really* promising!

That is all. (For now)

Oh, oh, fandom. Can't type very well on this keyboard but here's my 2 cents on those things that're making the rounds right now (in bullet point format):
-review != concrit.
-re. partly_bouncy: Oh man, you have no idea how hard it's been not to comment, and if I hadn't been at a clunky hostel keyboard that day, I would've written a lengthy rant, because she's crossed the line from merely obnoxious to vicious and destructive. But I have a feeling that plenty of others have posted on that by now.
re. fanlib: *points and laughs*

a very big sword

I jotted this down, thinking that one day (for Centifolia II?), I’d work it up into a finished piece. Too busy right now. Also, not permitted to make another book until CENTI I sells through.

Mental note: “cheongsam” looks like “chorgasm” early in the morning. Not drawn during CCI.

Midnight Madness.....of sorts.

I'm going to continue to update my previous post with all the Marvel Masterpiece 2 sketch cards.
I like finding out where they were found!

Also just found that the Clone Wars sketch card set I did stuff for is out now.
Actually out a little early...but I found my first clone on Ebay!

CLONE SOLDIER (1 of 78 troopers) Found in Palm Beach Shores.

The cards weren't supposed to be out until tomorrow, and we're not supposed to show any imagery from our cards, either.
I've even seen a couple of sketch cards from one of my heroes, CALAMITY JON MORRIS sneaking out there.

I kind of just put my Clone cards up on my site for all to see, but I don't think anyone even noticed.
Well, one person did, so I locked the page until tonight at midnight.
CLICK HERE NEXT WEEK FOR CLONE WARS CARDS

Speaking of midnight, me and the co-hosts of the VOICE OF THE REPUBLIC (the BEST gahddamn Star Wars audio podcast out there) will be heading down to the Florida Mall ToysRUs location for their Clone Wars Midnight Madness opening.
Hope to interview many nerds.
While I would hope to see a really retarded display of humanity ala the Cabbage Patch Kids mini-riots, I kind of know that our kind is a lot more docile and tend to bruise easy.

Time to start kicking arse and bleeding ink.

I LIVE!

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 4:22 PM

Barely.  I've moved into my new house in Southampton but I'm minus a net connection.  Bugger.  Still, its given me thing to think and read.  Recently I’ve stared reading Stephen King's: The Dark Tower saga and I’ve been enthralled by it.  Stephen has a gift for creating vivid world and believable characters. (Why when ever imagine what Roland Deschain looks like i see Hugh Jackman? )

Why have I waited almost 20 years to read a Stephen King novel?  Still, better late than never.

I've started working on ideas for my final minor and major projects. The idea i've had for the minor project will take every skill and determination that i have at my disposal to do right as i've been looking on the net for artists to have been inspired by the same material and ye gods, what i've found was intimidating in the extreme.

Still, what's life without challenges?  More soon.

P.S. Wall-E had such a big heart and is so filled with love that I though my heart was going to go POP! Prince Caspian was a welcome surprise.

P.P.S: The Dark Knight is the best superhero movie ever made to date and the best movie of the summer so far.  Like Alex Ross when he was X-Men, I have fallen back in love with Batman.  Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar.  His Joker is the most disturbing Joker ever commited to film.

ITEM! sandwich of the week: "tesco's finest" tuna nicoise - tuna, free range hard boiled egg, tomato, mayonnaise, endive* & olives on oatmeal brown bread - v.tasty & reasonably goob value at "only" £2.50

* i'm on a tip, on a tip, on a chicory tip!

ITEM! this story
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7522952.stm

doing the rounds yesterday tickled me - tho i guess i wouldn't like to be called "tallulah does the hula from hawaii" either - even if i was a nine year old girl

other "bizarre" names blocked by officials = yeah detroit, stallion, twisty poi, keenan got lucy, sex fruit, fat boy, cinderella beauty blossom, fish & chips ( twins )

tho these were allowed: violence, number 16 bus shelter, midnight chardonnay, benson & hedges ( twins )

ITEM! my fave quote from this year's celebrity masterchef was by restaurant gritic jay rayner ( son of agony aunty claire ) - "louis's horseradish mousse could be gategorised as a weapon of mass destruction - if i ruled the world he'd be in prison for that" - presumably in guantanamo bay...?

the masterchef critics ( rayner, charles "the trencherman" gampion & kate "sourface" spicer ) now have their own telly show in the ready steady cook afternoon slot - eating with the enemy - i hope to report back on it soonish - i have heard a rumour ( - as unlikely as it sounds ) that k.spicer actually smiles in this programme

in the meantime, goob luck to liz "lil" mcclarnon in tonite's masterchef final - i wouldn't mind if andi "psycho" peters won ( - he does appear to be the best at cooking, after all ) - but not mark "the bottler" moraghan, plse

ITEM! let's hope the voting public get rid of dull as dishwater mohamed "the stomach" mohamed in tonite's big brother eviction - & keep in the far more interesting ( & far more annoying, admittedly ) rebecca "ronald" shiner & darnell "one does not a summer make" swallow - KAT TO WIN
